Submission Guidelines

Saturday Night Reader is looking for very short (flash) fiction, of up to 1000 words. Most genres are accepted, including science fiction, horror and thrillers. We will not, however, accept erotica or stories that have needlessly foul language.

How to Submit a Story

All stories must be submitted using our online form. We now use Submittable to manage our submissions. 

You may upload your story in any of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .txt. Maximum word count is 1,000 words.

Multiple submissions are acceptable. You may also submit your story to others, however please inform us immediately if your story has been accepted elsewhere.

SNR publishes stories 3 times a week. We require a minimum of 30 days to review submissions however you will likely hear from us before then. If you haven't heard back from us on a submission after this timeframe, contact us so that we may look into it.

SNR reserves the right to make minor copy-writing changes to any story. This includes editing the work in accordance with our standards of punctuation, spelling, capitalization and usage. However, we will not make major alterations to the work's text or title without the author's written approval. We do not accept rewrites or re-submissions of a rejected story unless specifically requested by the Managing Editor.

Compensation

Saturday Night Reader believes in compensating writers for their work. We currently offer five dollars ($5 CAD/USD) for each published story, to be paid via PayPal. Payment will be forwarded once a story has been published. We will also happily publish a link to each writer's blog or website as part of the author's byline.

Rights and Terms of Publication

By submitting a story to SNR, you agree to grant us first publication rights with exclusivity for a period of two (2) months. After this period, you agree to grant us perpetual non-exclusive rights which allow us to re-publish the work anytime and maintain in our archives, as long as we give you credit. Your story may be distributed through a variety of means, including email or RSS feed, our Web site and SNR's quarterly print magazine. You do, however, still own your story, and are free to publish it elsewhere after two (2) months.

Any story submitted to Saturday Night Reader must be your own unpublished original creation. By "unpublished", we mean it hasn't been printed or posted on any website or blog accessible to the public. This includes personal websites and blogs.
